HUD Offers Environmental Training

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is holding training sessions related to environmental issues in housing and urban development. A brief summary of the offerings follows.

Orientation to Environmental Assessment
April 6-10 & October 19-23, 1998
The only "primer" course on how to comply with HUD environmental regulations.

Environmental Components of Rehabilitation
May 13-15 & August 26-28, 1998
Introduction to principles & practices of energy efficiency, lead hazard control & historic preservation for those (government, not-for-profit, private) engaged in rehab for affordable housing.

Building Communities Through Environmental Initiatives
June 3-5, 1998
Conference for experienced practitioner/HUD CDBG grantee on environmental initiatives (as opposed to meeting procedural requirements) that will improve quality of life, etc. Includes brownfields, energy efficient & lead safe rehab, historic preservation (tax incentives) and workshop in which other federal agencies showcase their community development programs.

The Great Lakes Center for Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health, School of Public Health, University of Illinois, offers these courses in conjunction with HUD, USEPA, USDOE and other governmental agencies.
