West End Development Corporation

Executive Director

WEDC is committed to channeling human and financial resources and facilitating innovative partnerships to nurture and promote a diverse urban community that endures.  WEDC has evolved over the course of 30 years and pursued a diverse array of activities.  Serving the Near West Side of Milwaukee, WI, West End was originally active only in the social organizing of neighborhood residents in regard to crime and safety concerns around prostitution, drug dealing and other social dysfunction.  Today WEDC focuses on real estate development and investment, remaining intent on engaging stakeholders through various forums.

West End Development Corporation (WEDC) seeks to hire a full-time executivedirector.  The Executive  Director reports to the WEDC Board of Directors.  S/he will have responsibility for day-to-day operations, including: management of construction and development projects, liaising with government bodies, and complying with government regulations.  The Executive Director will have primary responsibility over agency fundraising and growing and diversifying the organization’s operating revenue.  S/he will serve as the face of WEDC and be required to develop and maintain strong relationships with lenders, funders, and community leaders.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management

Create and maintain a working partnership with the Board of
Directors on vision, mission, long range and strategic planning, policy
development, human resources oversight, fund development and financial
management;

bullet

Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which
achieves its mission and toward which it makes consistent and timely
progress;

bullet

Select and manage WEDC staff; ensure that job descriptions are
developed, performance evaluations held, and sound human resource practices
are in place;

bullet

Build an environment of team work in which staff can work as a
cohesive unit to meet agency goals; a collaborative work environment with
other organizations;

bullet

Implement grant writing, special event planning, and initiatives
for revenue generation to diversify WEDC’s funding

Finance and Regulation

bullet

Manage relationship with City of Milwaukee and other government
agencies to ensure continued program support;

bullet

Oversee WEDC’s financial management, including approval of all
construction budgets;

bullet

Discuss with and make recommendations to the board regarding
internal and external issues that may impact the operation of the
organization;

bullet

Ensure that the organization adheres to local, state, and federal
regulations both in its operations as a non-profit and in property
engagements

Community Collaboration

bullet

Represent the organization within the local community;

bullet

Implement WEDC’s marketing and PR efforts;

bullet

Conduct community outreach related to program goals;

bullet

Formulate relevant collaborations geared to increased investments
in the community

Qualifications

bullet

At least 3 - 5 years of professional work, preferably in real
estate finance and/or development experience, preferably with non-profit
organization(s)

bullet

Demonstrated broad knowledge of and contacts within the affordable
housing and community development finance field

bullet

At least five years of successful, high-level management
experience managing multiple priorities with staff in a variety of
professional and technical roles

bullet

Have extensive knowledge of the Community Development Block Grant
programs and their reporting requirements

bullet

Demonstrated entrepreneurial aptitude to successfully manage all
aspects of the operation

bullet

Proven track record of raising private, public and foundation
capital and operating support

bullet

Outstanding skills in oral and written communication

bullet

Demonstrated strong strategic planning and financial analytical
skills

bullet

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably, in relevant field such as
business, nonprofit management, construction management, and/or urban
planning.
