Northeast Wisconsin Stormwater Consortium (Green Bay, WI)

Coordinator

The Northeast Wisconsin Stormwater Consortium (NEWSC) is an organization whose mission is to facilitate efficient implementation of stormwater programs locally and regionally that will meet DNR and EPA regulatory requirements and maximize the benefit of stormwater activities to the watershed.  NEWSC’s membership is comprised mainly of municipalities with state-issued general stormwater permits.    NEWSC is a division of Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance (FWWA), a non-profit organization based in Appleton.   

The NEWSC Coordinator is an employee of FWWA.  Work under this position is the equivalent of half time, although the hours per week may vary.  Wages will be an hourly rate and dependent upon qualifications.  No benefits are available with this position.  The length of the position is dependent on availability of funds, which are established annually (generally by January 31). Office space and equipment will be provided.  Occasional work from home may be possible.  

On behalf of NEWSC, the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (ECWRPC) applied for and received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) to design and implement a phosphorus education program in 2008 and 2009.  NEWSC/FWWA will contract with a marketing consultant and the NEWSC Coordinator will assume a major role in administration and implementation of the project and the grant.   

The NEWSC Coordinator assists NEWSC in achieving its mission by providing continuity between various workgroups and the Council and communicating with member and non-member communities.  NEWSC leadership provides direction and content. 

Work Tasks: 

·         Communicate regularly with NEWSC Council and workgroup chairpersons

·         Organize meetings, assemble agendas, send notices, take and post minutes

·         Manage phosphorus education project and assist with grant administration (2008 and 2009)

·         Coordinate and design information and marketing pieces (handouts, fact sheets, display boards, etc) about a variety of stormwater topics

·         Work with Treasurer to develop and monitor budgets

·         Act as primary contact to existing and new members

·         Act as primary contact to local media

·         Assist with creation of training materials

·         Make presentations

·         Research and compile information for workgroups and NEWSC library

·         Coordinate annual work-planning and prepare annual report

·         Maintain database of member contact information

·         Work with FWWA bookkeeper to send yearly invoices to members and maintain budget

·         Collect and prepare information for posting on website

·         Answer and respond to phone calls

·         Other duties and administrative services as needed 

 

Required Qualifications: 

·         Environmental education and a passion for the environment

·         Strong organizational and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)

·         Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher

·         Proper telephone skills

·         Demonstrated ability to work with and facilitate groups and workgroups

·         Ability to manage and administer grants and major projects

·         Ability to take initiative and work independently

·         Demonstrated ability to perform research through the Internet and other sources.

·         Non-technical grasp of stormwater management and concepts

·         Bachelor’s degree in earth science, natural resources, ecology, environmental science or planning or other related field is preferred, but not required

·         Ability to build, maintain, and/or update a website is desired, but not required

·         Valid Wisconsin drivers license

·         Basic understanding of local government
