The City of Iowa
City is currently accepting applications for a Transportation/Traffic
Engineering Planner.
The starting salary is $45,594 and includes an
excellent benefits package. An increase after six months to $49,879 is
possible (based on performance).
As a staff person of
the JCCOG Metropolitan Planning Organization this position is responsible
for providing services to the City of Coralville, the City of North Liberty,
the City of Tiffin, the University of Iowa, Johnson County and the Iowa DOT.
Responsibilities include the preparation of traffic and transportation
planning studies, including but not limited to: traffic signal warrant
studies, traffic signal operation studies, pedestrian crossing evaluations,
roadway capacity analyses, speed studies, queuing studies, corridor studies,
roadway alignment studies, traffic impact studies, on-street parking
evaluations, driveway access evaluations, streetlight installation
evaluations, accident history analysis, and preparation of ordinance
legislation.
Position requires a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban
Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering or a closely related
field from a Department of Education recognized accredited school. Three
years of experience in traffic and transportation planning is desired. A
Masters Degree from a Department of Education recognized accredited school
may be substituted for part of experience. Requires familiarity with the
Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, traffic engineering evaluation
techniques, road design standards and traffic analysis models such as
TransCAD, Synchro and the Highway Capacity Manual. Requires ability to
communicate effectively. Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa driver’s
license with a satisfactory driving record.
