What is AICP?
| The American Institute of Planners (AICP) is the professional institute within the American Planning Association.
AICP's central mission is the professional development and certification of its members as a means to the ongoing
improvement of the practice of planning. As a member of AICP, you join over 10,000 planners (over 140 in
Wisconsin) in advancing AICP's mission as well as furthering your professional commitment to the planning field.
Professional planners are certified after successfully passing the AICP written examination, a 150-question multiple
choice examination administered by the Educational Testing Service at over 100 test sites throughout the United
States. The exam is given annually on the second Saturday in May.
AICP encourages professional planners to continuously pursue improvement in their professional competence as
well as in the development of peers and aspiring planners. APA and its chapters offer continuing education
opportunities through conferences and workshops.
AICP members are required to adhere to the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The Code sets forth
four basic principles regarding the professional responsibilities of the planner, and is supplemented by several
advisory rulings on contemporary professional conduct issues. |
